The Statewide ALERT Network began as a project of the Maryland Fire Chiefs Strategic Planning Committee in early Spring of 2002, after considerable deliberation concerning the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

The alert network disseminates critical and emergency information in a timely manner to the Chief Officers of the Fire/EMS services in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania Ohio, Massachusetts, New York , North Carolina and District of Columbia.  In addition, Federal, State, Local agencies; public safety, emergency management and police are receiving alert notifications.

The Statewide ALERT Network incorporates a variety of technologies to deliver secure and non-secure information that helps First Responders to remain safe and well informed, since they are often first to arrive at an incident. The Statewide ALERT Network gathers its information through cooperative agreements with various Federal, State and Local government agencies with homeland security, public safety and emergency management involvements.  In our efforts to cover all aspects of the fire/ems service, and with excellent cooperation and assistance of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association, we continue to have meetings with many agencies to continue to improve our information stream.

The Statewide Alert Network began under the Presidency of Charles Black, and we thank the Presidents of the MFCA since 2002 for continuing our valuable service to the ranking officers in 10 states:Roger Steger - Robert Small - Paul Sterling - Robert Smarte - Jeff Thompson - Richard Blair - Terry Thompson.  And also Jay Grimes.

Operations Chief - David "Skip" Menzies
Technology - Rick L. Hemphill
Operations: Mike Burkoff, Mike Main, Jason Miller, Terry Smith, Harve Woods
